In 2008 he studied music education at Arizona State University as a member of the percussion studio and part of the Arizona State Sun Devil Marching Band (09-10) until 2012. In the 2007-2008 school year, he began a degree in music performance as a member of the University of Massachusetts Marching Band and percussion studio, studying under Drum Corps International Hall of Fame inductees Thom Hannum and Colin McNutt. He attended grade school and high school in his native town of Glendale Arizona in northwest Phoenix graduating with academic honors from Mountain Ridge High School in 2007.
